Mallorie. (what my face looks like) 22. I started my fitness journey back in 2012 when I stepped on the scale and was horrified that my awful eating habits had caught up to me.
Over the course of a year and a half, I’ve had my ups and downs with exercising and eating right. I struggled to find my niche at the gym. I tried everything. Stairclimber, Julian Michaels videos, intervals on the treadmill, elliptical, personal training with heavy lifting, bikes, I just couldn’t figure it out.
Then in July of 2013, I saw that one of my favorite hockey teams was putting on a 5K at their Training Camp Festival. I don’t know what hit me, but I HAD to run it. I downloaded Zen Lab’s free “Couch 2 5K” app along with “Zombies, Run!” By Six to Start (This app is AMAZING and where my blog title comes from. It’s basically a real life video game. You run from zombies, save your town, and collect items to build your base in app!) and got to work. Race day came in mid September and I finished with a pause at mile 1.5, but I did it! I signed up for 2 more 5K’s in 2013 and am currently training for my first 10K at the beginning of March.
I have an ultimate goal in mind: the 2015 Disney Princess Half Marathon and Enchanted 10K, also known as the Glass Slipper Challenge. After I accomplish that goal, I want to train for a marathon and I’d love for my first marathon to be Disney.
I run 3-4 times a week and do a little bit of strength training on those days. I also practice yoga 3 days a week. I adore this routine.
When I’m not bulldozing through workouts, I enjoy coaching and general managing NHL teams from my couch, writing, video games, fishing, spending time with my family, horror movies, Disney, and working.
I have two wonderful jobs! I work with one of my best friends at the fantastic company she owns. I’m the jack-of-all-trades. I do retail in store, but I also do any photography the company needs, social media, web building, graphic design, marketing, and more. I also babysit on days I’m not in store. I used to work at a daycare, so I became close to a lot of families. Even though that job is behind me, the connections are not. I am so lucky to get to hang out with adorable kiddos on my days off and get paid for it.
My dream is to finish school and major in journalism. I would love to get paid to write about hockey, but I also dream of working at one of my favorite places, Disney. I would love to do behind-the-scenes marketing work or be in front of the crowds making people smile.
I hope you find what makes you happy and healthy, whether that’s running from zombies or being forever young with Peter Pan. =)
I tweet good things about hockey, running, and life. @Schmallie
